Clinical treatment and research of cancer based on Traditional Korean Medicine theories

Korean Association of Traditional Oncology

The Korean Association of Traditional Oncology was founded in 1994 by members who share the will to research and manage cancer based on Traditional Korean Medicine theories.

We aim to advance Korean Traditional Oncology by further solidifying the academic foundations through systematization of clinical treatment and research.

Ryu Ki-Won, our first president of the association, and our board members embarked upon academic work for Korean Traditional Oncology.

1994

The association held its first academic symposium, the "1st International Symposium on Oriental Medicine." Key figures like Seung-hoon Choi , Chong-kwan Cho, Tae-hyun Baek, and Sang-hyeop Yoon participated and presented research papers.

1995

The Journal of Korean Oriental Oncology was launched, marking the beginning of annual publications.

1996

Seung-hoon Choi , Chong-kwan Cho, and Jin-sung Kim attended the 96th International Symposium on Chinese Medicine and Tumors in Beijing, China, where they presented research on Korean traditional medicine's approach to cancer treatment.

1998

The 4th Korean-Chinese Academic Conference, focusing on tumors, was held in Seoul. Korean traditional medicine research on tumors accounted for 11 of the presented papers.
The association organized the National Academic Conference of Korean Medicine.

1999

Seung-hoon Choi became the 2nd president of the association.
The association established annual academic journal publications and seminars.

2003

Won-chul Choi was elected the 3rd president of the association.

2004

Former president Seung-hoon Choi was appointed as a WHO Western Pacific Region Traditional Medicine Advisor.
He promoted Korean traditional medicine globally and worked on standardization efforts.

2005

The association was renamed the Korean Association of Traditional Oncology.
The journal was renamed the Journal of Korean Traditional Oncology.

2007

The Journal of Korean Traditional Oncology completed its 12th volume.

2008

The association initiated clinical training programs for acupuncturists, with over 70 participants.

2010

Sung-hoon Kim became the 4th president of the association.

2011

The association organized a continuing education program on the latest trends in Korean and Chinese traditional cancer treatment.

2012

The association held its annual summer symposium.

2013

The association published a standardized textbook, "Integrated Oncology of Korean Medicine."
The association co-hosted the National Academic Conference of Korean Medicine.

2014

Chong-kwan Cho became the 6th president of the association.
The association continued its commitment to education and co-hosted the National Academic Conference of Korean Medicine.

2015

The association held its annual academic conference.
The Journal of Korean Traditional Oncology completed its 20th volume, Issue 2.

2016

Goo Moon became the 7th president of the association.
The association hosted the National Academic Conference of Korean Medicine and a spring academic conference.
The association initiated advanced training courses.

2017

The association held spring and fall academic conferences.
The association organized a promotional video contest.

2018

Sang-hoon Hong became the eighth president of the association.
The association held spring and fall academic conferences.
The association initiated specialized training courses.

2019

The association co-hosted the National Academic Conference of Korean Medicine.
The association held spring and fall academic conferences.
The association organized continuing education and specialized training courses.

2020

Sung-woo Yoon became the 9th president of the association.
The association held a fall academic conference.
The Journal of Korean Traditional Oncology completed its 25th volume, Issue 2.

2021

The association held a spring academic conference.
The association co-hosted the National Academic Conference of Korean Medicine.

2022

The association held a spring academic conference.
The association co-hosted the National Academic Conference of Korean Medicine.

2023

Hwa-seung Yoo became the 10th president of the association.
The association held spring and fall academic conferences.
The Journal of Korean Traditional Oncology completed its 28th volume, Issue 1.

2024

The second edition of "Integrated Oncology of Korean Medicine" was published.
The association held spring and fall academic conferences.



As seen above, we are clinically treating cancer with Korean Medicine and pursuing persistent academic activities through many presentations and research. Based on such academic activities and clinical outcomes, we will continue our efforts to become an association that leads the history of cancer treatment worldwide.
